So, there’s this site where you can generate a map of all the states you’ve visited. All the cool kids are doing it. Here’s mine.

Of course, naming the states you’ve ‘visited’ is an exercise in fuzzy distinction - do I count every place I’ve even driven through, every airport layover? Here’s my obsessively complete version:

Not much different, I guess. The site also lets you generate a map of every country you’ve ever visited:

Ha ha, just kidding! I have not, in fact, visited all of the -stan countries. I have been to Azerbaijan, though. Mmmm, Azerbaijan.

We went to see Return of the King yesterday. It was good, but too long. This is not to say that I think they could have done a better job - I think it’s remarkable that they were able to cram such a large story into such a small amount of time. They didn’t keep any sequences that I thought they should have cut, either.
But a too-long movie is a too-long movie. My legs were pistoning up and down with nervous energy for the last 20 minutes, driving Holly nuts. But I’m glad we went.
Holly found a few of the Frodo-Sam moments too schmaltzy, but I, being used to the florid language in the book, saw them as simple and understated. I guess it’s all about expectations.
We spent the few minutes in the theater before the movie started trying to remember which movies we’d seen since Daphne was born. It took us a while to remember that we had seen Elf, which wasn’t even that long ago.
The whole concept of leaving the house to go do something not involving Daphne is just very foreign and weird. Neither of us are registered Democrats, but we could technically go a-caucusing tonight anyway (you’re allowed to change your registration at the door).
I’m actually kind of interested in the outcome - not because I think all these Democrats are necessarily so great, but because I’m interested in anybody who can de-Bushify the executive branch - but I think that marking myself down as a member of a party, any party, would give me the willies.
We won’t go, anyway. Actually, we’ll be looking after Eliana, whose parents will be caucusing. So we’re doing our part for the democratic process, in a roundabout way. :)

So, Bush admits (sorta) that he was planning to attack Iraq before 9/11.
Sure, it turns out that the WMD stuff was a bunch of crap, and sure, there are lots of nasty dictators that the U.S. likes just fine (even in the “coalition of the willing”), and sure, the U.S. was supporting Saddam back in the 80s when he was actually using those chemical weapons, and sure, the connection between Saddam and Al-Qaeda probably never existed.
But none of that means that the Bush administration has ever done something wrong, or been less than 100% honest, for the following well-thought-out reason:
9/11 9/11, terror terror terror terror, 9/11 terror terror, 9/11 9/11. Terror terror terror terror, 9/11 9/11, terror terror. 9/11, terror terror? Terror terror terror terror terror! Terror 9/11 9/11 terror 9/11!
Argue with that, I dare ya.
