Rocky Andersen is freaking awesome..
But, hey, I’ve said so before.
For the confused: Rocky Andersen is the mayor of Salt Lake City. He was on CNN yesterday, explaining to Wolf Blitzer why Bush should be impeached.
One of the many disheartening things about the last several years is that our oh-so-laudable constitutional processes have thus far been unable to put much of a dent in one of the very worst presidential administrations ever to blight our fair nation.
Isn’t impeachment what is supposed to happen to elected officials of Bush’s caliber? Why in heaven hasn’t it happened already?
The Republican controlled congress was never going to hamstring Bush, of course. He may be a terrible excuse for a conservative, but he has enjoyed a remarkable loyalty from a broad swath of Republicans up until the very recent past. I’m not sure why, but he has (had?) a real cult of personality in effect.
The Republicans are no longer in charge, though. Oi Democrats: can we start some impeachment hearings real soon now, pretty please? If you can’t impeach a malignance of Bush’s magnitude, even when his popularity with the public is right in the toilet, umm… what can you do?
