Of course. What topic gets blogged about more than this? I have to admit that i’m tired of the attention that this topic gets, which makes me a hypocrite for writing this post. I just want to say that i don’t really believe that the world is going to come to an end any time soon for any reason (peak oil, bird flu, global warming, overpopulation, the end of the mayan calender lol). However, I get a kick out of reading everybody’s crazy theories; kinda like watching some doomsday movie. It’s simply a romantic notion for a guy as bored as me. I just finished reading an article in Reason Magazine by Ron Bailey trying to dispell some of the myths. It was probably the most level-headed approach i’ve read so far (anything in Reason usually is). He basically concludes that we have a steady supply for at least another generation, and that if/when oil production slows significantly, the market will make the neccessary adjustments both in terms of demand and technological replacements. So i’m going to put myself out there now by admitting my lack of understanding. Why exactly is production supposed to begin to decline when we’ve depleted half of the world’s oil supply? If i have a tank of water and I’m pumping water out of it at a certain rate, why would that rate decrease when the tank is half empty? I simply don’t get it. I understand the discovery peak and that the rate at which we are discovering new reservoirs is decreasing, but i don’t get the production peak. Can someone please explain it to me? Jack, if your reading this, i’m sure you know the answer.

Hello Everybody! My name is Kip and this is (going to be) my blog. Thanks to my brother Jack for getting it set up for me. I really don’t know exactly what I plan on using this for, but for now it’s just a way to let everybody know what’s going on with me. I live in Sacramento now so i’m nowhere near most of my friends and i’m hoping this will help me keep in touch. Comments are welcome; hopefully I will eventually start topics that people will want to discuss here. Anyway, that’s all for now. Happy (late) 4/20 everybody! I hope you all had a good one.
